Psychotherapy Explained

Psychotherapy is essentially a series of techniques for the treatment of mental illness, emotional and some psychiatric disorders, behavioural and personality problems based primarily
on verbal or nonverbal communication and interventions with the client,
in contrast to treatments using chemical and physical measures. Simply put, psychotherapy aims to alleviate psychological distress through talking, rather than drugs.
Psychotherapy
allows you to become aware of what causes you to feel positive or
anxious, as well as accepting your strong and weak points.
Example:- You burn your finger when cooking, you would avoid doing it again - it doesn’t really affect your life that much.
However,
if when you were a child, you were constantly told that you’re useless,
then you start to believe it. This can affect your whole life. From
just one simple thing can come, a large number of issues, including
relationship problems.
The
Psychotherapist works with you to put such comments into the same
category as the burnt finger, giving a more acceptable format.
Fear then doesn’t control you because you understand and live from a point of knowledge and personal strength.
If people can identify their feelings and ways of thinking they become better at coping with difficult situations.
As a Psychotherapist I utilise a range of counselling skills and combine it with Neuro Linguistic Programming and Hypnotherapy to
facilitating positive change within clients who are experiencing mental
or emotional problems. My work is centred around Cognitive Behavioural
approach. I also teach clients how to manage stress, physical and
emotional pain.
